Information

The Tiburon Ferry, operated by Golden Gate Ferry, provides weekday commuter ferry service between Tiburon and the San Francisco Ferry Building. No weekend or holiday service is offered on this ferry route.

The ferry from Tiburon begins service each weekday starting at 5:30 AM and the ferry from San Francisco begins at 6:00 AM. A typical ferry crossing time is 30 minutes where you’ll get to see stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Vessel assignment on the Tiburon Ferry route varies, but, depending on the boat, up to 725 passengers can be accommodated as well as 75 or 200 bicycles. Folding bikes must not be stored in the bike racks, but folded up under a seat or in another location deemed safe by a crew member. The bike racks are reserved for regular, non-folding bicycles. Electric bikes ARE NOT permitted on the Golden Gate Tiburon Ferry.

The Tiburon Ferry is accessible to passengers using wheelchairs and a wheelchair accessible restroom is available onboard the vessel. When taking the ferry between Tiburon and San Francisco, wheelchair users must use the wheelchair lift to load/unload on separate decks. The wheelchair lifts can accommodate a wheelchair up to 30″ wide by 41″ long and a total weight not exceeding 495 lbs, and may be operated only by crew members. For the ferry from Tiburon, wheelchair users should enter on the main deck and take the lift up one level to exit in San Francisco. For the ferry from San Francisco, wheelchair users should enter on the upper deck and take the lift down one level to exit in Tiburon.

Golden Gate Ferry Awarded $5.9M to Purchase New High-Speed Ferry

Last week, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced that the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) was awarded a $5.9 million grant to help acquire a new high-speed ferry vessel that will enhance service reliability for its 2.5 million annual ferry riders. The newly announced funding will help Golden Gate Ferry increase its ferry fleet to eight passenger vessels.

Public Hearing Scheduled for Proposal for Means-Based Fare Discount on Golden Gate Ferry

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) Board of Directors voted unanimously on Friday, July 26, 2019, to set a public hearing to receive public comment on the establishment of “means-based fares” that would provide a fare discount for low-income riders on Golden Gate Transit regional bus routes and regular (non-special event) Golden Gate Ferry service. The public hearing is set for Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. in the Board Room, Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, in San Francisco.
