Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District Board to consider extending current transfer credit to SMART riders

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District Board of Directors (Board) will consider extending a current transfer credit it has with three Sonoma County bus operators (Sonoma County Transit, Santa Rosa CityBus, and Petaluma Transit) to passengers transferring from Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) trains to Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry. The proposal will be presented to the Board’s Finance-Auditing Committee on Thursday, April 22, 2016, and, if approved, the transfer credit would take effect when SMART train service begins later in 2016.

The proposal is being made in the interest of encouraging inter-operator transfers and establishing continuity with other transit fare programs in the corridor.

The transfer credit would be $1.50 for adult riders and $0.75 for youth, senior, and disabled riders. Because fare payment on SMART will be solely based on the Clipper fare card payment system, these transfer credits will only be available within the Clipper environment.

To comment on this proposal, please email or call 511 (say “Golden Gate Transit,” then “operator” to bypass recorded messages)/TDD 711. Comments must be received by 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016. The Golden Gate Customer Service Center is open weekdays from 7am to 6pm.
