Vallejo police Tuesday announced funeral plans next week for slain officer Jim Capoot.
Public services for Capoot, 45, a decorated veteran of the Vallejo Police Department and father of three, will be held starting at 11am, Nov. 30, at Vallejo High School’s Corbus Field, 840 Nebraska St.
Capoot was shot and killed Thursday as he pursued an alleged bank robber in North Vallejo. The suspect, Henry Albert Smith, 37, of Fairfield, was arrested that same afternoon and booked on suspicion of murder and robbery.
This is the second time Corbus Field has hosted a memorial for a Vallejo officer killed in the line of duty. In 2000. it was also the scene of Officer Jeffrey Azuar’s memorial, attended by hundreds including officers from across the state.
Capoot was the fourth Vallejo officer killed in the line of duty in the city’s 155-year history.
The Vallejo Police Officers Association has set up a memorial fund for Capoot’s wife and family at the Bank of the West. Checks can be made out to the Officer James Capoot Family Trust, c/o Vallejo Police Officers Association (Sgt. Mark Nicol), PO Box 4218, Vallejo, Calif., 94590.
