Public hearing set for Feb. 19 on proposed changes to qualifying age limits for youth fares

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) will hold a Public Hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2015, to receive comments on a proposal to change the District’s policy regarding qualifying age limits for youth fares. The Public Hearing will take place in the Board Room, Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza in San Francisco, CA.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s (MTC) regional Clipper coordination initiative endorsed a recommendation that all participating operators throughout the Bay Area, including Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry, move toward a consistent standard for youth fares, which encompasses ages 5 through 18. For many years, the District has provided discounts to youth ages 6 through 18, and waived fares for children ages 5 and under (when accompanied by an adult). The proposed change would affect the District’s bus and ferry customers traveling with children between ages 5 and 6 years, and would charge this age group the appropriate youth fare.

For more information on the proposal, including how to comment, visit or call 511 (say “Golden Gate Transit,” then “operator” to bypass recorded messages)/TDD 711.
