The following is from Golden Gate Transit …
The high-speed M.V. Del Norte has been out of service to receive new engines, among other things, and returned to Larkspur on July 21. During the trip back from Washington state, a problem with the newly installed water jet hydraulic control system was identified. Since then, all contractors involved have been working around the clock in coordination with GGF to resolve the issue. We are now undertaking an engineering review of the modifications made to the vessel to determine what is required to make the system operational and, most importantly, reliable and safe.
The anticipation has been that the issue would be resolved by today, August 16, and the Del Norte would replace the M.V. Mendocino while it goes to mandatory U.S. Coast Guard dry docking. Unfortunately, the issue has not been resolved and the Del Norte is not ready to assume the Mendocino’s scheduled trips. Therefore, effective beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, August 17, Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry will be operating a modified weekday schedule using the M.V. Napa and 2 Spaulding vessels. We expect to operate this schedule through Friday, September 3.
In addition, this evening’s 6:35pm and 8:10pm Larkspur trips and 7:20pm and 8:50 San Francisco trips (normally served by the Mendocino) will be operated by a Spaulding vessel (45-50 minute crossings).
We apologize for the inconvenience and will update you as more information is available. We encourage you to sign up for email and text alerts to stay close to this issue and other ferry-related announcements.
